Centre for High North Logistics, Kirkenes
New logistics systems and solutions are required to develop offshore oil and gas fields located in the areas characterized by harsh climate, long distances and lack of infrastructure.
Cross disciplinary focus and relevant risk management systems are to be in place in order to develop sustainable and efficient logistical solutions in the High North. Proactive planning, establishing of knowledge networks and investments in needed equipment and infrastructure are prerequisites.
The mission of the Centre for High North Logistics is to create professional international cross disciplinary knowledge network consisting of companies, research institutions and public authorities.
CHNL has established a High North Logistics Information Office (LiO) in Kirkenes, providing practical information on regulations, navigation and ports on the Northern Sea Route (NSR). CHNL is also working on ARCTIS, a wiki-based database and knowledge hub on resources (non-living), shipping and logistics in the Arctic.
